Villa Mexico Cafe: it’s Not Your Average Gas Station Burrito

by johnk

One of these things is not like the others: Armor All, Fix-A-Flat, and a spectacular Mole Poblano Burrito. They don't have many seating options at Villa Mexico Cafe: four seats inside a convenience store snack bar and three chairs outside between the dumpster and a pallet of windshield wash. Both options overlook the gas pumps. This burrito made up for the less-than-ideal atmosphere.

My first visit to Villa Mexico Cafe will probably be my last.  Not because the food was sub-par, but because the gas station housing Villa Mexico is closing (and it sounds like the landlord is an asshole, making things difficult for the restaurant).

I’m rarely in the MGH-West End area, but today I was nearby and had to go Villa Mexico.  I read many reviews of this place, and most were positive.  One of the only reviews that didn’t praise Villa Mexico was from the dicks at the Phantom Phucktard.  That youngest, retarded brother Mike (AKA The Other Sister) said it wasn’t bad, he just didn’t understand the excitement.  I’m working from memory because I gave up on those clowns a while back, so please give me a break if that’s not exactly what he said.

I ordered a Mole Poblano Burrito.  I went with the spicy hot version, adding a little sour cream to offset the extra spice.  The burrito was far better than I anticipated.  Julie King, the owner, mentioned the Mole Poblano was a bit soupy and might leak from the tortilla, but other than that, it was perfect. After getting through half the burrito, I had to set it on a plate and use a fork and knife, but I don’t anticipate this problem with dryer, more traditional ingredients.  I just chose a filling that includes sauce.

I really hope to get back soon.  It sounds like they’re struggling in their current location, but it also sounds like they’re struggling to find a new location.  They’re looking for a small place in the area, but they don’t have anything yet.  Even if they find a location today, it could be weeks or even months before they get licensing transferred and the new place set up. I wish the best for Julie and her family, and I hope that obnoxious broad at the Licensing Board doesn’t screw it up for us.
